Ruddington ‘Wakes’ Funfair

This is an annual, traditional, family event. Ruddington ‘Wakes’ dates back over one hundred years, when the St Peter’s Feast was the start of the school holidays in the village (around the 29th of June).

For 2022, the rides and attractions open at 5pm on Wednesday 22nd, Thursday 23rd & Friday 24th and from 2pm on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June. Thankfully this means those attending the funfair should not be impacted by noise, vibration and dust from the Bloor Homes development site on the former Green Belt land surrounding it – as the current construction work should not be taking place during these hours.

If you’re a Ruddington resident, walking to the Funfair is recommended. For those not in the village there is some free onsite parking. Alternatively, except on Sunday, you can catch Nottingham City Transport’s Navy 3 bus service direct to the fair alighting at Paget Crescent bus stop. The Green 10 bus takes you as far as the village centre and back in the evenings and on Sunday.

Originally “The Wakes” were held on The Green but, since 1968, have taken place each year on Sellors’ Playing Field on Wilford Road – with one exception in 2020, when this popular Ruddington funfair, run by Cox’s Amusements, was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

If YOU have any old photographs of “Ruddington Wakes” pre-1968 when it was still on The Green, and you’d be happy to share them with us, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch via our “Contact” page >>HERE<<.
